Theatres, galleries and cinemas
We are very lucky having such a range of galleries and theatres locally...
Beverley Art Gallery is almost on our doorstep and just 9 miles away Ferens Art Gallery in Hull is well worth a visit. Ferens has been extended and refurbished, it hosted the Turner Prize in 2017 and features many wonderful touring collections. There are also many smaller local galleries, where you can maybe take home a reminder of your stay in the Yorkshire Wolds.
Robert Fuller is one of the foremost wildlife artists in the country and his gallery is open daily, Sledmere has a gallery and the Wolds Village has an art and craft centre. Gallery 49 in Bridlington sells limited edition prints of David Hockney who has immortalised the Wolds landscapes (he was a Bridlington resident for many years).
In October you can catch the open studios event with hundreds of artists opening their doors to the public (please check dates before booking).
We have a theatre in Beverley, in Hull you will find Hull New Theatre and Hull Truck whilst a little further afield Alan Ayckbourn premiers all his new works in Scarborough. The Bridlington Spa theatre has an interesting programme and in York there are also the Theatre Royal and the Grand Opera House.
Hull City Hall hosts concerts and events throughout the year and Hull Arena features major touring acts. There are also several cinemas within easy reach of the cottages.
