Whilst you are here you will be able to see our farm animals and the wildlife in the gardens and paddocks that surround the cottages. You can see many of our farm animals from the cottages or areas outside, the hens wander around free range and there are usually sheep in the paddocks. The busiest time is lambing which takes place March/April. Click to find out more about farm holidays at Broadgate Farm.

Wildlife

We also have a lot of wildlife around the farm, a wide selection of birds, rabbits, hares, squirrels and deer can all be seen in the grounds.

Birds include Jenny Wrens, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Hedge Sparrows (dunnock), House Sparrows , Tree Sparrows, Gold Finches, Chaffinch, Green Finches, Bull Finches, Robins, Song Thrush, Mistle thrush, Black Birds, Collared Doves, Wood Pigeon & Magpies. We also have Buzzards, Barn Owls, Little Owls and Tawny Owls in the surrounding paddocks.

Pheasants roost in the conifers down the side of the driveway, English partridge are rather fond of our vegetable garden and Barn Owl can be seen covering the paddock in front of the cottages late evenings and early morning. The Barn Owls live in the Owl box just by the Cart House. We love living here and try to attract birds by providing nesting boxes and creating the right habitat to encourage good feeding for wild birds.

All the cottages have binoculars and a book about the local wildlife reserves, we have a great calendar about wildlife you can expect to see in East Yorkshire across the year.
