Discover Hull

Dating back to the Middle Ages, Hull is a city defined by its water, having played a monumental role in global fishing and seafaring industries. Following an ambitious wave of regeneration and renewal, the historic centre has blossomed into a premier destination for culture and entertainment.

Visitors can wander through the beautifully restored Old Town, stroll past luxury yachts along the vibrant Hull Marina, or spend a summer evening dining outdoors at Zebedee’s Yard, which hosts popular street food nights, live concerts, and open air screenings.

The Deep and Waterfront Attractions

Perched dramatically on the waterfront stands The Deep, an award winning millennium project and the world’s only dedicated submarium. This spectacular attraction houses over 3500 marine creatures in its massive tanks, including magnificent sea turtles and 40 sharks, making it an absolute must visit during your stay in Yorkshire.

A short walk away at the Marina, you can step on board the iconic Spurn Lightship, which has recently reopened to the public as a fully restored floating museum after a major maritime preservation project.

The Historic Museum Quarter

Nestled along the high street in the heart of the Old Town lies Hulls famous Museum Quarter, where a wonderful collection of council run museums are completely free to enter. You can explore Wilberforce House, a museum dedicated to the life and fight of local Member of Parliament William Wilberforce to abolish slavery.

Nearby, the Hull and East Riding Museum houses a giant resident mammoth and Britain's largest surviving prehistoric logboat, while the delightful Streetlife Transport Museum lets you clamber on board vintage trams and stroll down a recreated old high street.

Arts, Entertainment, and Cinematic Trails

The city boasts an exceptional theatrical heritage, featuring major West End musicals, opera, and ballet at the Hull New Theatre, alongside boundary pushing independent productions at the famous Hull Truck Theatre. Art enthusiasts can view brilliant exhibitions at the free to enter Ferens Art Gallery.

To explore on foot, you can follow the famous pavement engraved Fish Trail through the oldest corners of the city, or check out the Hullywood Trail, which guides you to the exact historic streets used as filming locations for major television shows and films like Enola Holmes.

Hull's massive multi million pound maritime heritage investment continues to transform the city landscape. Visitors can join free walking tours led by accredited local guides starting from the Museum Quarter gardens to uncover hidden tales of the waterfront.

These tours pass key regional monuments, including the grand Victorian architecture of the Hull Maritime Museum and the eco friendly, ultra energy efficient Passivhaus visitor centre at the North End Shipyard, the spectacular new dry berth home of the historic Arctic Corsair trawler.
