Environmental Policy
Broadgate Farm Cottages aims to offer a quality holiday experience to customers at the same time taking care to reduce our environmental impact.

We will strive to protect the long term future of wildlife and the environment at Broadgate Farm, we will create habitats to encourage wildlife and seek to minimise our impact upon the wildlife when we develop the site.
Energy and Fuel Use Energy efficiency is key. We select energy-efficient options for all operations, favouring ‘green’ solutions where practicable. We will endeavour to avoid waste of energy wherever possible; staff and customers will be encouraged to turn off lights, heating, immersions and TV sets when not required.
Most of our light fittings use energy efficient bulbs and tubes. All of the cottages have been built to the highest standards with regard to insulation and energy efficiency. Heating & hot water will be provided by ground source heat pump to minimise our use of non renewable energy sources, in our larger cottages this will be supplimented by solar panels. Most of our cottages will feature wood burning stoves, the logs we use for these have been produced on the farm and we have planted many more trees than we actually use. All of the cottages have been assessed to understand the carbon emissions and either meet or achieve the new stringent standards.
Sustainable Water Management Water efficiency is the key to sustainable water management. To continually develop this area we should consider everything from the water source, usage and waste disposal. Our activities should protect and conserve our source of ground water, both in terms of abstraction of water and preventing pollution of the land and underlying aquifer. We have our own waterbore and all bathrooms have modern suites with water efficiency measures built in. All waste from the cottages is treated in an environment agency approved treatment plant.
Environmental Awareness - we try to minimise our adverse impact on the environment in whatever small ways we can. We have tried to minimise the waste created at the farm, so we recycle glass bottles, tins, drinks cans, newspaper, cardboard and plastic bottles. There is also a compost bin for all the vegetable waste (only uncooked vegetable waste please).
It would be a great help if you could help us by turning off lights, heating and immersion heaters when you are not in the cottages and remember to turn off the stand by light on the televisions as well, they use 80% of the power of the television when it is switched on!!!! |
