The city of Hull has a proud maritime heritage this historic port city situated on the River Hull dates back to the Middle Ages. The city played a significant role in the fishing, whaling, and maritime industries during the 19th and early 20th centuries and has seen many exciting developments in recent years.

The city has embarked on a programme of regeneration and renewal, there are new shopping areas, attractions and the cities cultural & nightlife has blossomed. Broadgate Farm Holiday Cottages is to the North East of Hull about 8/9 miles from the centre. Our self catering cottages are an ideal option for accommodation when visiting Hull, which is easily accessible by car or a quick train ride from Beverley.

Hull has had a very successful 2017 UK City of Culture which recognised the depth of the cultural offering in the city - Hull has 2 theatres, 3 concert hall, art galleries, fantastic free museums, wonderful cultural festivals and events like Larkin with Toads - and that is just for starters! The 2017 programme was so successful there is now an ongoing programme of events and investment in the city.

The Deep - East Yorkshire hosts the world's only submarium, the tanks contain 3500 sea creatures including 40 sharks. The Deep was one of the most successful Millennium projects and should not be missed on your visit to Yorkshire.

Hull Minster

Museums

Hull is known for its cultural attractions and most of the council run museums are free to enter - Hull's Museum Quarter, on the High Street in the heart of the Old Town, consists of

  • Wilberforce House - A museum dedicated to the life of William Wilberforce – the Hull MP who spearheaded the fight for the abolition of slavery
  • Arctic Corsair - a trawler
  • Hull and East Riding Museum - which contains the Hasholme Logboat (Britain's largest surviving prehistoric logboat), examples of local Roman mosaic, and a huge resident Mammoth!
  • Streetlife and Transport Museum, clamber onboard trams and coaches or wander around the old shops in this delightful museum.

Other museums and visitor attractions in Hull include the Ferens Art Gallery, the Maritime Museum, the Spurn Lightship and the Yorkshire Water Museum. The Fish Trail leads its followers through old and new sections of the city, following a wide variety of sea life engraved in the pavement.

The Old Town & Marina

This area of Hull has seen major regeneration and now is home to many excellent restaurants and eateries, an art gallery and and open air venue Zebedee's Yard that hosts events throughout the year from screening, concerts or the Hull Street Food Nights. On a summer's evening sit out by the Marina and take in the view.

Entertainment in Hull

The city has two main theatres, the Hull New Theatre, which features musicals, opera, ballet, drama, children's shows and pantomime. The Hull Truck Theatre is a smaller independent theatre and between them we have a great range of shows and concerts. Hull City Hall has an extensive programme of concerts and musical events across the year aa does the new Hull Arena. The city has a rich nightlife with numerous nightclubs, restaurants, characterful hostelries and a casino. Feren's art gallery is free to enter and has had some wonderful exhibitions in recent years - Hockney - Warhol - Da Vinci - The Turner prize 2017

Walks

You can book a facinating walking tour of Hull Old Town at the Tourist Information Centre, they cost around £5 per person - a great way to spend half a day. You can also follow the Fish Trail, a variety of sea life is engraved into the pavements and the trail leads its followers through old and new sections of the city.
