David Hockney – painting on the Yorkshire Wolds

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Our guests staying in our 6 bedroom High Barn cottage went out walking on the lovely Yorkshire Wolds today and were lucky enough to stumble upon David Hockney painting “en plein air”. Hockney loves the Yorkshire Wolds and often paints outdoors – it was a great thrill for our guests and they resisted the tempation to disturb him leaving him to work in peace.

Hockney lives in Bridlington and in his 2012 exhibition at the Royal Academy 80% of the works on show featured the lovely Yorkshire Wolds. Why not come and see for yourself?  Join us at http://broadgatefarmcottages.co.uk

Double Double Trouble!

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

We were lucky enough to have a rare set of quads born on the farm at the weekend – 4 nice strong lambs. Mum is feeding them all and we supplement some of them with a bottle. We thought it was all over after three and were very surprised to see another shortly afterwards!

David Hockney East Yorkshire landscapes

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

The RA released more tickets for the David Hockney exhibition yesterday – was difficult to get on the booking site it was so busy. Then difficult to find a date/time slot that had free tickets but I got some booked for half term week.

I can’t wait to see the exhibition 80% of the works are of East Yorkshire – we went to see the Bigger Trees near Warter when it visited Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. A whole exhibition of works will be wonderful.

The local tourist board are working with David Hockney to develop a trail showing the places which inspired his works – more news on this later

Visit us and see for yourselves! http://broadgatefarmcottages.co.uk We are quite busy even now but do have some short breaks left over February and March.

Countryfile January 8th

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Don’t miss Countryfile on January 8th  – visiting east Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds again! This time they are looking at one of the new Scupltures on the Wolds Way – In time there will be 10 artworks on the 79 mile Wolds Way. This project is the country’s first public art collection on a national trail.

Well done to our local tourist board for coming up with this project, securing the funding and helping put the Yorkshire Wolds and East Yorkshire on the map!

Don’t forget that David Hockney has his exhibition at the Royal Acadamy of Arts in January – most of the works featuring the landscapes of East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds

Visit to Burton Agnes Hall

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Went to a local tourism meeting today at Burton Agnes Hall, it is a wonderful Elizabethan Hall with splendid gardens. Highly recommended for a visit!

It is within very easy reach of Broadgate Farm self catering holiday cottages.
